How long does a Texas divorce take to complete? As you probably guessed, the timetable depends upon the complexity of the case and the number of contested issues.
On the one hand, a simple, agreed divorce can take as little as 60-90 days from the date of filing. (Texas law currently requires a minimum 60 day waiting period between the filing of the petition and the finalization of the divorce). On the other hand a complicated, highly contested case can take 6 months, a year, or even longer to complete.
Most Texas divorce cases follow this simple flowchart:

The time required to advance from one step to the next will vary depending upon the needs of the particular case. A divorce involving a complicated estate or contested child custody issues, for example, will require more time to gather information than a simple, uncontested case. And not all steps will be required in every case. Some cases can be resolved without a contested final hearing. Some cases can even be resolved prior to mediation. Generally, the further a case must move down the flowchart to achieve resolution, the longer the divorce process will take.
