Potentially dangerous products: there’s an app for that

| Mar 22, 2019 | Uncategorized |

You probably do everything you can to keep yourself and your family safe. Whether that means using natural cleaning solutions, purchasing a vehicle based on its crash rating or updating your children’s car seats when newer models becomes available, you may think you do not own any potentially hazardous products.

However, in many cases, products are recalled due to the potential risks they present for those who use them. These products could be harmful in various ways, such as posing a choking or fire hazard. But how are you supposed to know when there is a problem?

What type of products get recalled?

Thanks to a new app from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), you can receive alerts when a product is determined to be defective or dangerous. Recalled products can vary greatly, to include everything from motorized vehicles and children’s toys to hardware in your home.

Some of the CPSC’s recent recalls might apply to products you already own. Recalls issued so far this year include:

  • Collegiate riding saddles – The girth can detach from the tree of the saddle due to screws that were too short. As a result, a rider could fall.
  • Air King Valencia Wall-Mounted Range Hoods – The provided anchors do not securely fasten the hood to the wall.
  • Stack-On Sentinel gun safe – The safe’s bolt malfunction can allow access to firearms without a key or combination.
  • Brush Art WIC Nutrition Plates – Though labeled as microwave-safe, there is aluminum in the plates which could pose a fire hazard.

As you receive alerts about recalled products you own, you probably want to contact the manufacturer for replacement or refund options. However, if you or one of your loved ones suffer injuries due to a product defect, you might choose to explore your legal options.
