Seven killed in major motorcycle accident

On Behalf of | Jun 26, 2019 | Car Accidents |

A severe accident in another part of the country left seven motorcyclists dead. The motorcyclists were reportedly part of a group of active and former Marines who enjoyed riding their motorcycles together. The tragic story attracted national media attention.

The accident happened in the dinner hour and involved a pickup truck as well as the pack of motorcycles. Police said that the pickup driver, who appears to have simply run in to the motorcycles, survived the collision.

In addition to the seven bikers who died, two others suffered serious injuries. One of those who was injured had to be flown to a nearby hospital.

Those who saw the accident and its immediate aftermath described a scene that suggested the collision happened at a fairly high speed. Police are still calling the incident an “accident,” but they are continuing to investigate. Some have suggested, however, that warning strips along the sides of the road may have helped prevent this accident.

However, it is ultimately the responsibility of other drivers to make sure that they watch for motorcyclists and avoid hitting them. As a previous post here discussed, drivers can follow a variety of fairly simple safety tips to avoid accidents. This includes not engaging in texting and driving and simply being aware that motorcycles will be on the road, particularly during the warmer weather.

Motorcyclists in Austin, Texas, and their families, need to understand that they may have legal rights available to them after an accident. One option may be to file a legal claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost income and other non-economic damages.
